Guardamar
Del Segura,
about 15 minutes drive, is known as one the prettiest towns in the
Valencia region. It has 8 blue flag beaches which stretch for 14
kilometres,
at the foot of a vast pine forest. There are lifeguards on duty until
dusk in the summer and there are medical centres, nets for ball games
and children's climbing frames & slides. The
most popular beaches are the Centro and Roqueta whilst those next to the
mouth of the river tend to be quieter. There is a pretty Marina where
you can catch a glass bottom boat to the nearby island of Tabarca.

Guardamar
beach is possibly one of the best kept beaches in Spain. It is very
popular, but compared to other parts of the coast overcrowding is not
really a problem here. The beaches are very deep, leaving space for
everyone. The
lifeguards patrol the beach and there is a flag system for
bathing, making it an extremely safe beach for children. It consistently
wins the coveted Blue Flag award every year for its cleanliness and
facilities. Sun beds are available in most places.

There are
lovely promenades with pavement cafe's & bars. There cannot be many
places more pleasant to sit and enjoy the evening. Many people choose
to eat overlooking the beach looking out at the Mediterranean, simply
because it is so beautiful.
Guardamar
also offers a wide range of water sports including every possible sea
sport such as sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, underwater diving,
canoeing, jet skiing, etc. The Marina de las Dunas at the mouth of the
river Segura offers all these as well as 498 moorings.

Guardamar
also has great sports facilities such as the “Las Rabosas” Sports Centre
and the magnificent Municipal Sports Centre, with its Olympic
swimming-pool, 3 football pitches, basketball courts, five-a-side soccer
pitches, tennis courts and covered sports.
There is a
night market almost every evening running alongside the park which is
opposite the main restaurant area where you can enjoy Spanish, Chinese,
American, Italian and other types of food.
The
park is a lovely place to walk through, its fauna
includes red squirrels and black swans.
There is also a day market
around the main square on Wednesdays, selling everything from fruit and veg to clothes, shoes and household goods
and on
Sundays the “rastra”, the flea market, takes place.
