Algorfa enjoys a
typically Mediterranean climate and the region boasts many citrus
groves, including orange and lemon as well as olive trees and lies on
the banks of the River Segura. Just outside the village is an unusual
neo-gothic church that was built at the beginning of the nineteenth
century and is worth visiting. Algorfa is a top destination for golf
lovers, with many new courses only a short drive away. La Finca
golf course is just a short distance up the road and is well
worth a visit, even if you don't play golf as the Clubhouse is
great to have morning coffee or there is an excellent
restaurant. There is a tennis club along the main road leading
towards La Finca, which also has a restaurant.
The village of Algorfa is very relaxing and friendly. There are plenty
of shops including bakeries, Spanish and English supermarkets, butchers,
pharmacy, electrical, beauty/hair, hardware and newsagents. Also, there
are banks; plenty of bars, including an open air tapas bar; as well as a
take-away Pizzeria. There are 2 Internet cafés near the main square. The square can
become very lively during the day and particularly in the evenings,
where families can sit and enjoy a drink and/or a snack and children can
play.

During
the summer months, in particular, the village is a hive of
activity with many of the locals having parties & barbecues in
the streets. They are very friendly and will appreciate you
saying "hola" as you pass by. During the month of July the
village holds a fiesta which lasts 10 days. The village
comes to life with music, dancing, parades, bands & other
events. Children play a great part in this celebration.
There
are numerous traditional street markets around the wider area on
most days of the week. Algorfa’s large Zocco market on a Sunday
morning is just a 5 minutes drive. There is also a small market
situated near the main Algorfa square on Wednesdays. |
